FLY ON THE WALL is the tenth studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released on 28th June 1985 by Albert Productions, and Atlantic Records. The album was re-released in 2003 as part of the AC/DC Remasters Series. FLY ON THE WALL tends to be the AC/DC record that gets the most slander from fans. Most of the criticisms are probably fairly valid. AC/DC have rarely been accused of attempting to pander for mainstream success, but in an era where hair metal was starting to emerge as the new favorite subgenre of rock it seemed the Young brothers did make a bit of effort to chase the current flavor with this record. It's also quite apparent with the collection of themed music videos that the band released for the album's singles which eventually got a release on VHS. FLY ON THE WALL is the second (and final) record that Angus and Malcolm Young produce on their own. This was Simon Wright's first album contributing drums to the group after touring behind Flick Of The Switch. Wright's drums are especially loud in the mix, which Brian Johnson's vocals are quite low. Johnson's vocals are practically screamed, which could probably said of his first three albums with the band, but its far more true with this record. You're not the only AC/DC fan that considers FLY ON THE WALL to be a guilty pleasure. Never argue with anyone that labels it worst effort, and you'll still quite happy to listen to it just about any time.

Instead of issuing your usual run-of-the-mill video clips advertising new album, AC/DC decided to try something a little different for their 1985 record, FLY ON THE WALL. A storyline was created that would run through five of the album's songs, and while the story wasn't exactly on par with Citizen Kane (it centered around the band playing away at a city bar, while strange characters were introduced per song), it proved to be a rather original idea amidst the usual corny clips of the '80s. The most popular video was for the mid-paced rocker "Danger" (which showed a sleazy photographer snooping around the band), which was played regularly on MTV's heavy metal programs. Other clips included "Shake Your Foundations" (as the title hints, the band reduces the bar to rubble), and a rather embarrassing one for "Sink The Pink" (in which a disco dancer shimmy's away to AC/DC's thunderous heavy metal... come on!). Like their 1986 home video, Who Made Who, FLY ON THE WALL suffers from an all too short running time, but still manages to be enjoyable viewing. Don't let anyone fool you into thinking that AC/DC were in the midst of a slump while recording the FLY ON THE WALL album. The band had taken over the production reins for their 1983 predecessor Flick Of The Switch, and they elected once again to not bring in an outside producer for FLY ON THE WALL which was produced by Angus & Malcolm. And as strong of an album as Flick Of The Switch is, this one is even better.
