AC/DC- BACK HOME WITH BRIAN: Melbourne Broadcast 1981- CD- 2018- Sonic Boom Production- 823564816005- 400 grn
The Young brothers formed AC/DC in Sydney, Australia, in 1973 with Angus (famous for his schoolboy short-trousers outfit) on lead guitar and Malcolm on rhythm guitar. The rest of the band’s lineup changed when the Youngs moved to Melbourne, and AC/DC’s blues-based records and live appearances made them favourites in Australia by the mid-1970s. The band relocated to London in 1976 and found success in Britain with Let There Be Rock. After solidifying their lineup (with Scott as vocalist, Rudd on drums, Williams on bass, and the Youngs), the band recorded Highway To Hell, which brought them international fame. AC/DC’s rise was hampered by Scott’s alcohol-related death in February 1980, but replacement Johnson’s falsetto fit in well with the group’s tight, clean metal punch and their raucous bad-boy image. The band’s next album, Back In Black, sold more than 10 million copies in the United States alone, and For Those About To Rock was also a million-seller. The early to mid-1980s was the band’s peak period as a live group.

Despite the tragic circumstances that led to him joining the band, Brian Johnson's initiation into the AC/DC fold coincided with the most prolific period of their career. Their first album together, Back In Black, went on to become the second biggest album of all time. Additionally, the band's remaining 1980 tour dates received widespread acclaim across North America and Europe, and the shows they played in the other member's native Australia in early 81 were equally well received. Indeed, these performances were hailed as being among AC/DC's best, with Brian earning his rightful place as one of the finest vocalists in hard rock history. Captured at Melbourne's Sidney Myer Music Bowl on 27th February 81, the band give a sterling performance, playing their biggest hits from across their career to date, providing a rare treat for fans of all eras of AC/DC.
