Hi, my friends. Before we go on, blabbering about how great Deep Purple were in their prime days, like to mention that we a very passionate music listener. Deep Purple has to be one of our favourite bands, not only because their music is great and they are superbly well informed about their instruments, but in fact, they could perform live like no other band. Its so common for a band to have troubles playing live, because they don't know how to keep up the fluency and make sure that the audience doesn't lose interest. Deep Purple used their technical abilities to entertain the crowd, with many solos and impressive transitions into songs. Japanese crowds are extremely lucky. Not only have the greatest concerts taken place there, but so many bands who've created special bonus tracks solely for the Japanese listeners at the time. Made In Japan had to be Deep Purple's greatest live album. Not only are the previously mentioned transitions extremely smooth, but the spontaneity of the concert is brilliant. Ian Gillan is entertaining and he could sing extremely well live. This live album is amongst the greatest ever.

The best of Deep Purple in the 80's may be inconsistent and unsatisfying, but that's an accurate reflection of the group's career during the decade. Even though it's fitfully entertaining, THE BEST & LIVE OF DEEP PURPLE features all of the highlights the group recorded during the '80s and it's preferable to the albums they released during the era. The Deep Purple reunion was the success beyond what anybody hoped for. The band had revitalized after many acrimonious years apart. They were fresh and rejuvenated. If the live recordings are anything to go by, then the concert tours was also dynamite. Ian Gillan found Ritchie Blackmore increasingly difficult to work with, refusing even to record guitar for one song. Gillan admits he was no treat either, so it was the band that suffered. Ian compared Deep Purple to a beautiful meal, a plate full of gourmet perfection — that’s Roger Glover, Ian Paice and Jon Lord. Ian Gillan and Ritchie Blackmore were the fork and knife on either side. There is no mistaking the organ of Jon Lord just as strong. It’s all about the spaces between, but Ritchie ensures there is a catchy trademark Deep Purple riff involved. His solos are exotic delight. Even in 1987, Deep Purple weren’t afraid to load their single down with solos. Jon Lord’s synths are perhaps more prominent than they were in ’84. This is not a bad thing, because Jon Lord makes synth sound good. Synth and electronics take center stage, powerful both because of and in spite of it. Someone in Deep Purple said that every other Purple album was “difficult”. Perhaps there’s a smidgen to truth to that, because The House Of Blue Light does not sound like the same confident band that recorded Perfect Strangers.
