20th Century Masters, labelled here as THE UNIVERSAL MASTERS COLLECTION. This one will ended up in your clutches for simple reason - it did feature some tracks that you did not actually have. The tracks in question are ''Son Of Alerik'', a ten minute track that was a bonus on Perfect Strangers CD remaster and the songs from The House Of Blue Light that you never bothered with. ''Bad Attitude'', ''The Unwritten Law'', and ''Dead Or Alive''. This version with different packaging also features ''The Spanish Archer'' from this album as a last track, so that is kind of a nice bonus. CLASSIC DEEP PURPLE also features ''Knocking At Your Back Door'' and ''Perfect Strangers'', the two best songs on Perfect Strangers album. As a bonus here features the brilliant live tracks ''Black Night'', clocking just over six minutes, and classic live ''Child In Time'' (10:37) and a live ''Smoke On The Water'' (7:41). That is not a bad collection in essence and worth giving money you shelled out for this. You'll very pleased to be able to add it to your collection.

Compilation devoted to their '80s recordings for Mercury Records, a time that isn't considered one of their peaks, even if it did produce the fairly solid The House Of Blue Light. This does round up the highlights from those records, and it does a good job of doing it, but it's not for most listeners - especially the kind that would normally be quite satisfied by a volume of THE UNIVERSAL MASTERS COLLECTION. The collection features the full-length album trac ks "Knocking At Your Back Door," "Perfect Stranger " and "Bad Attitude," as well as stellar live vers ions of their classic songs "Black Night," and "Child In Time." At first glance, there's not much here for the Deep Purple afficionado unless, of course, you've got every album they've put out. This compilation focuses on three albums: Perfect Strangers, The House Of Blue Light and Nobody's Perfect. But there are a few twists in this compilation. "Son Of Alerik", is rarely found on any compilation. Clocking in at around 10 minutes, the slow-and-bluesy arrangements of this instrumental track features an incredible performance by Mr. Blackmore. Tracks ''Bad Attitude'', ''The Unwritten Law'' and ''Dead Or Alive'' are lifted from the The House Of Blue Light album, but the versions included are from the "vinyl mix", which had shorter versions. The rest of the tracks are lifted straight from their original albums. Deep Purple have established themselves as one of the most influential bands of all-time. And, since they are so influential, they have had numerous compilations released over the years. And in 2003, they got a compilation in UMG's ongoing THE UNIVERSAL MASTERS COLLECTION Series. If you are a big fan of Deep Purple and have liked them for a long time, than don't ignore this one. Highly recommended for the big Deep Purple fan. It's definitely worth a listen.
