STRIPPED is a live album by the English rock band The Rolling Stones released on 13th November 1995 after the Voodoo Lounge Tour. It contains six live tracks and eight studio recordings. The live tracks were taken from four 1995 performances, at three small venues, and include a cover of Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone", which was the first single from the album. The remaining eight tracks were acoustic studio re-recordings of songs from The Stones' previous catalogue, the exception being a cover of Willie Dixon's "Little Baby". The studio performances were recorded "live," i.e., without overdubs. The Rolling Stones never did an unplugged set on MTV's Unplugged, but this is as close as they get to that. They start it off with a cool laid back version of ''Street Fighting Man'', which isn't better than the studio version, but at the same time not worse. It's just a different look at a song you wouldn't think could be pulled off acoustically. But The Stones pull it off nicely. Also on this cool set are nice renditions of ''Wild Horses'', ''Angie'', and a nice cover of Bob Dylan's ''Like A Rolling Stone''. This is what a lot of Stone's fans had been waiting for when this CD came out. It's not completely acoustical, but close enough to make you wonder why MTV never had them on, whether it was MTV's doing, The Stones didn't want to, or it was a mutual thing. Stones fans must have this one if they don't already, yet casual fans will enjoy these cool renditions that aren't any better or worse than the originals.

Despite the odds, The Rolling Stones' STRIPPED held out great promise. The idea of taking back to small clubs seemed an inspired move. Patched together from an embroidery of tour rehearsals and live club dates in Paris and Amsterdam, the project was an extension of acoustic sets the group introduced on the North American leg of the Voodoo Lounge Tour. The concept offered an invigorating opportunity to dust off some rough gems from the past that no longer felt at home on sloping stadium stages. This is a really good Stones live acoustic album, but the best song from these sessions was left off of it. The version of ''Tumblin' Dice'' that's on Rarities and was a B-side to the STRIPPED ''Wild Horses'' single from these sessions is incredible. It was also the song that varied from the original the most. However, the material that is on here is really good. It's one of the better versions of ''Street Fightin' Man''. The songs picked as the album highlights are pretty accurate. The version of ''Shine A Light'' is great. The version of ''Little Baby'' on here as well- it's nothing groundbreaking but it's great to hear latter-day Stones do a classic blues number. ''Sweet Virginia'' included on the album and the version here is great. Would recommend it to anyone who's a big Stones fan. It's probably not for the casual fan, but you don't have to be a Stones completist to enjoy it.
