Delaney Bramlett- SWEET INSPIRATION- CD- 2008- Voiceprint/Sonic Past Music- 604388717422- 400 grn
UK reissue of this 2004 release from the American singer songwriter. The album was originally recorded in 1989 but remained unreleased for 15 years. Delaney Bramlett is probably best known for his partnership with his former wife Bonnie. The late Delaney Bramlett was without question one of the best kept innovative secrets in Rock 'n' Roll. He came into the spotlight for a short time in the late sixties and early seventies, as one half of the husband/wife team of Delaney And Bonnie. He more than anyone, was responsible for the early success of Eric Clapton in 1970, by producing his first solo album, and basically teaching Eric how to sing with a blues feel. He taught George Harrison how to play slide guitar the Mississippi delta way, and he was pals with the whole early seventies rock fraternity. His friends included Leon Russell, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, and played with John Lennon. That know takes us to one of his finest solo outings ever SWEET INSPIRATION. Recorded in the eighties, it was not released until 2006 domestically, it is a tour deforce of rock/gospel blues.

The title track "Sweet Inspiration", is a wailing rocker that makes Elvis Presley's version seem sedate. "Things I Didn't Say", is a moving blues ballad not to be missed. "I Have The Feel Of It", is an excellent emotional tinged tune featuring his daughter Bekka, whose pipes are reminiscent of her mom Bonnie Bramlett. She was the only caucasion woman to sing as an Ikette, for Ike And Tina Turner. Other stand outs here, are "Let It Rain", which Delaney co-wrote with Eric Clapton back in the day. Delaney's version is a more straight forward blues take on the song. The bonus tracks are simply alternate takes on some already fine cuts. The band backing Delaney on this project, was according to Delaney, "The best band I ever had". They sound every bit the part. They are tight and well rehearsed. If you are a fan of that late 60's and early 70's gospel rock sound, then you are going to be in heaven with this little known release from that little known rock/blues guitarist songwriter Delaney Bramlett.
