Paul Wassif's debut album, LOOKING UP FEELING DOWN, is available from 8 August 2011 on CD, following its digital release in June on iTunes and Amazon. Paul's debut solo album is a collection of self-penned songs and traditional classics that span a variety of styles. On Big Bill Broonzy's "Southbound Train" and Paul's own song "Please Don't Leave" he is joined by Bert Jansch and Eric Clapton, recording together for the very first time. In fact, it was Paul’s friendship with guitar legends Clapton and Jansch that gave him the encouragement and inspiration to make this album. “I had been playing with Bert for a while and Eric had come along to see us play at Somerset House. A few days later I was having supper with Eric and he basically told me that I needed to get out there and start doing my own stuff. A few days later, while I was still contemplating Eric’s comments, Bert effectively told me the same thing. Even for me, this was difficult to ignore!” Other notable musicians on the recording include Robin Clayton on double bass, Evan Jenkins on drums and Seamus Beaghen on Hammond organ. Paul is a native of Bristol, England and spent the early part of his career in the punk rock band, The London Cowboys. Later, he was in bands with Jerry Nolan and Sylvain Sylvain (both of the New York Dolls). Paul collaborated on Bert Jansch's last two albums, Edge Of A Dream ("Black Cat Blues") and several tracks on The Black Swan. Today, Paul's musical style identifies with melodic country / blues rather than the punk rock of his early career. Apart from his career in music Paul is also a trained counselor and has been working with the charity RAPT (Rehabilitation of Addicted Prisoners Trust) for the last 10 years. Born in Bristol, England, Paul Wassif's early career in Punk/Rock band The London Cowboys, followed by various stints in NY bands with New York Dolls members Jerry Nolan and Sylvain Sylvain, could not be more different in style and substance to the melodic country/blues that now identifies Paul's music. Paul has also collaborated on Bert Jansch's two latest albums; Edge Of A Dream, in a sparkling guitar duet on the track 'Black Cat Blues', featured on the soundtrack of Calendar Girls and on the highly acclaimed album The Black Swan, Paul performed on three tracks and co-wrote 'Magadalina's Dance' with Bert. He has also supported Eric Clapton on a US tour with his own band.
