Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings- STRUTTIN’ OUR STUFF- CD- 01.10.1997-
- RCA-Victor/BMG Music- 743215144120- 400 grn
STRUTTIN’ OUR STUFF is the first studio album from Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings. 1997 album from the former Rolling Stones bassist and his Rhythm Kings. STRUTTIN’ OUR STUFF was the band's debut album and is packed with lively numbers that capture the spirit of the Blues from different eras. Among the dozen tracks are jive tunes like 'Jitterbug Boogie' and slow Blues such as 'Bad to Be Alone'. There are also 'covers' of classic hits including Creedence Clearwater Revival's 'Green River' and the R&B standard 'Tobacco Road'. The band clearly loves playing together and features an all-star cast of seasoned players, notably Georgie Fame on organ and vocals. Among the guitarists, Eric Clapton, Albert Lee and Peter Frampton contribute some hot solos, and there is an impressive roster of brass players and backing vocalists.

STRUTTIN’ OUR STUFF, Bill Wyman's first album in nearly 15 years, is a surprisingly successful collection of Blues and Rock & Roll. These performances are surprisingly energetic, even if they're a little too polished to accurately capture the gritty, roadside vibe they're trying to achieve. Nevertheless, there are a number of fine moments here, from covers of "Green River," "Tobacco Road" and "Mystery Train" to guest appearences from Eric Clapton, Albert Lee, Peter Frampton and Georgie Fame. In the sixteen years it took for bassist Bill Wyman to issue a follow up to his 1982 self-titled release, a lot had happened, most notably his resignation from one of the greatest all-time rock bands, the Rolling Stones. For Wyman's 1998 release, STRUTTIN' OUR STUFF, this ex-Stone recruits quite an impressive supporting cast of players (dubbed 'The Rhythm Kings'), including Peter Frampton, Eric Clapton, Albert Lee, and Georgie Fame. For a man with such a pedigree, Wyman keeps a surprisingly low profile on STRUTTIN'. The majority of the tracks are covers, including Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Green River," the blues rock standard "Tobacco Road," and an obscure original by Jagger-Richards, "Melody." STRUTTIN' OUR STUFF is definitely Wyman's best solo release yet.
