Vintage Lionel Richie. One of his best CD's of all time. Most of his songs bring back memories of the 80's. DANCING ON THE CEILING is the third solo studio album by American singer Lionel Richie, released on July 15, 1986. The album was originally to be titled Say You, Say Me, after the Academy Award-winning track of the same name, but it was renamed to a different track's title after Richie rewrote several songs on the album. The album was Richie’s second with session guitarist Carlos Rios. Following this album's release, Richie went on a long hiatus, not releasing an album of entirely new material for another ten years. The album sold 4 million copies in the US and it became the first album to be simultaneously certified silver, gold, platinum, and double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

DANCING ON THE CEILING completed Richie’s 1980s chart-success trifecta with Carmichael by his side in the co-producer’s chair, achieving quadruple-platinum status while also supplying another slew of major hits. The title track’s colourful, kinetic video contains an homage to Fred Astaire’s iconic ceiling-dancing moves in 1951’s Royal Wedding. “Love Will Conquer All” marked Richie’s tenth appearance at the top of the Adult Contemporary chart. And the #1 ballad “Say You, Say Me”, originally written for White Nights, a Cold War thriller starring Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines, won Richie a well-deserved Academy Award® for Best Original Song. DANCING ON THE CEILING is also certified triple-Platinum in Canada, double-Platinum in the U.K., and double-Gold in France.
