SCHOOL OF ROCK is the soundtrack album of the film of the same title starring Jack Black. It was released on September 30, 2003. The film's director Richard Linklater scouted the country for talented 11-year-old musicians to play the rock music that features on the soundtrack and in the film. This is Miranda Cosgrove's music debut as she is featured with the School Of Rock cast. Sammy James Jr. of the band The Mooney Suzuki penned the title track with screenwriter Mike White, and the band backs up Black and the child musicians on the soundtrack recording of the song. This soundtrack for SCHOOL OF ROCK delivers on every level: the song selection is great, the original dialogue excerpts are amusing, and the sound quality is near perfect. The classics included cross most genres and include extremely well known monster hits like Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" and lesser known, though brilliant, works like "Ballrooms Of Mars" by T-Rex. Equal to the originals for entertainment value were the original cast recordings of SCHOOL OF ROCK and especially the fabulous and funny cover version of "It's A Long Way To The Top". Recommend this CD to music fans or fans of the movie without reservation. The soundtrack was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Awards for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.

The soundtrack that rocks as hard as the highly anticipated, laugh-out-loud hilarious film starring Jack Black and Joan Cusack. Featuring old-school hits from icons like Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, AC/DC, The Doors, and Black Sabbath - and teaching listeners a thing or two with newcomers The Darkness and two songs from Jack Black and his chorus of students. Weirdly, features the Stooges cover "T.V. Eye" from fictional band Wylde Rattts (The Stooges' Ron Asheton, Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Steve Shelley, Minutemen's Mike Watt, Gumball's Don Fleming, and Mark Arm of Mudhoney) from the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack. That aside, some classic rock selections, one new track (The Black Keys), three movie dialogue extracts by Jack Black and four songs from the film (No Vacancy and School Of Rock). The vocals for the SCHOOL OF ROCK tracks are provided by Jack Black, while the music for same is performed by The Mooney Suzuki, who are named after Malcolm Mooney and Damo Suzuki. SCHOOL OF ROCK was a really cool movie. More than a bit preposterous, but no one ever said Jack Black did realistic movies (he starred in King Kong even). The soundtrack suits the concept of forming a rock band well with lots of classics. It even has a song by Wylde Ratttz that was previously only available on the soundtrack to Velvet Goldmine. Sure songs like ''The Immigrant Song'' and ''Sunshine Of Your Love'' are great, but most people have probably heard them a million times before. It serves as introudction to the Black Keys who are pretty cool, and fit in with the older bands better. They also threw in some more obscure numbers from Ramones and T. Rex. But sadly No Vacancy is just lame metal fronted by Jack Black. They were actually in the movie, but they're really nothing special. Oh, and the film excerpts are pointless. Great movie, but soundtracks should have more in the way of new songs. At least most of the songs are great.
