Songwriting and emotive voice that really captivate, and that paved the way for Adelmo (Zucchero) Fornaciari immense popularity throughout Italy and the rest of Europe in the late '80s and '90s. Zucchero's voice is gritty and textured, but he sings with a great sensitivity and lyricism (at times recalling the quality of Peter Gabriel's voice), and these same qualities are mirrored in his songwriting. By blending blues, pop, and adult contemporary, Zucchero's music can be quite affecting. This self-titled album alternates songs in Italian with songs in English, making the artist's music all the more diverse and accessible. The English version of the album, ZUCCHERO, was released with duets of “Senza Una Donna” and “Diamante” sung respectively with Paul Young and Randy Crawford. The single “Diamante” was released and was a hit, both in Great Britain, and the United States. It may seem that Zucchero is trying too hard to be American. Not that there's anything wrong with being a fan of Eric Clapton, it's just that that Anglo-Americana style of music feels at odds with Italianism. Anyway, that Zucchero kept enough Italian identity to give one of the songs here a title that can't be translated easily. "Nice Che Dice" (What's Nietzsche Saying?) loses its original rhyme and rhythm in a translation to English. This is a wonderfully beautiful blues pop album by Zucchero Sugar Fornaciari. This album, intended for the international market, contains improved work from several previous albums. Especially the song ''Wonderful World'' with Eric Clapton is wonderful. Other crackers include ''Mama'', ''Dunes Of Mercy'', ''You're Losing Me'' and ''You've Chosen Me''. The album is a mix of Italian and English songs. Zucchero is also known as the Italian Joe Cocker. However, Cocker covers a lot while Zucchero sings his own work. A really nice relaxing album. Relaxed atmosphere , instrumentally it is perfectly fine and Zucchero does indeed resemble Joe Cocker! This CD contains more quiet songs, usually there is a bit more spice, but it is precisely those quiet songs that make this CD so strong and lift it to this high level.
