THE EARLY CLAPTON COLLECTION contains a selection of seven songs from The Yardbirds, with The Immediate All-Stars and several tracks the guitarist cut with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. There are no big hits here (The Yardbirds ' "I Ain't Got You" is the closest thing to an actual hit) and nothing really qualifies as a rarity, since many tracks have been previously released on collections like Crossroads and The History of Eric Clapton. This isn't a bad way to gather all this material in one place, and much of it (particularly the Bluesbreakers sessions that also feature Jimmy Page) will be of interest to hardcore fans. However, there are other collections available featuring the same material, and some of those may be preferable to this disc.
