Ted Nugent- LOVE GRENADE- CD- 2007- Eagle Rock Entertainment Ltd.- 5034504136229- 400 grn
LOVE GRENADE is the 13th solo studio album by American rock and roll musician Ted Nugent. It was released on September 4, 2007. The album features of new version of the song "Journey To The Center Of The Mind", a hit for Nugent's 1960s group The Amboy Dukes. The pre-release cover art drew some controversy, as it depicts a naked woman bound and bent over on a large platter, with a grenade in her mouth. Eagle Records pulled the planned cover, and instead released a milder design featuring a hand grenade with a pink ribbon affixed.

So just who the hell does this Nugent guy think he is, anyway? Apparently, he is far beyond the thinking stage as he throttles mercilessly into his 5th decade of ferocious hi-energy Motor City Madhouse rhythm and blues-rock-n-roll mayhem. Look at the titles of these songs. The lyrics. Check out the title of this record. Listen to the sheer audacity and authority of this firestorm of rock. Doesn't this guy ever quit? Is he incapable of backing down? Can one man smile, laugh & dance this much in a single lifetime? Is it legal to have this much fun, defiance, energy and soul? Ted Nugent's legendary guitar identity is truly unique and special. If ever there was an unadulturated classic full bluntal, natural Gibson guitar tone, Nugent has created and perfected it. From the Amboy Dukes of the 1960s, through classic American anthems with his Ted Nugent band, the 1990s Damn Yankees right to this very day, the Nuge defines flat out American G-force horsepower rock with pure, unbridled enthusiasm, heart & soul. Here on LOVE GRENADE, once again surrounded by worldclass virtuoso musicians Barry Sparks and Tommy Clufetos, this is a band to reckon with. Nugent's first studio album in 5 years, LOVE GRENADE is a sonic assault on the body, mind and soul. Featuring the soon to be classic "Love Grenade", "Stand" and a 40th anniversary re-recording of the Amboy Dukes classic "Journey To The Center Of The Mind" this is Ted Nugent at his unadulterated finest. LOVE GRENADE demonstrates one incontrovertible truth about Ted Nugent - when he's on, he's hard to beat. Take a listen to Double Live Gonzo, Weekend Warriors, or the ubiquitous Cat Scratch Fever, and you'll hear a rarified player at the top of his game. The moments of true brilliance are harder to come by on this outing - it's hard not to glance at titles such as "Funk U" and "Girl Scout Cookies" and cringe with visions of late-era Spinal Tap. Worse still, it's harder to wade through the sophomoric lyrics and ham-fisted double entendres. Truth is, Nugent's at his best when he's not singing about sex - "Geronimo and Me," "Aborigine," and "Stand" are about the guns, guts, and glory behind Nuge's America. Truth is, Nugent's best when he's not singing at all, but instead flying his freak flag on the six string. A little less fat (the title cut, "Bridge Over Troubled Daughters" and the wholly unnecessary remake of "Journey To The Center Of The Mind") might have shown us that Nugent may just have another great album in him. Instead, we get a pretty good one that's not quite on par with one of Michigan's greatest export's best works.
