LIVE AT CARNEGIE HALL: AN ACOUSTIC EVENING is the fifteenth live album and video by American blues-rock musician Joe Bonamassa. It was released on 23rd June 2017 by J&R Adventures. The album documents Bonamassa's two performances at the Stern Auditorium, Carnegie Hall in New York City on 21st and 22nd January 2016. It is the guitarist and vocalist's second all-acoustic live collection, following 2013's An Acoustic Evening At The Vienna Opera House. Joe Bonamassa performed two unique all-acoustic shows with a nine-piece band at Carnegie Hall in New York City that were filmed and recorded. For his performances at the Carnegie Hall, Bonamassa performed with a number of musicians in addition to his regular backing band, including Chinese-American cellist and erhuist Tina Guo, American mandolin and banjo player Eric Bazilian, and Egyptian percussionist Hossam Ramzy. New arrangements of Bonamassa’s favorite songs as well as brand new songs fill this double album, two-disc DVD and double CD. The concert was part of an all-acoustic tour and features an all-star ensemble of world class musicians. The wind instruments and back up singers add an ethereal touch. LIVE AT CARNEGIE HALL: AN ACOUSTIC EVENING is an ambitious undertaking, one that propels Joe Bonamassa into some new terrain. With the volume of material Bonamassa has produced, this work has its own unique character and sets him apart from a number of other blues-rock artists.

How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice of course. That classic joke certainly seems appropriate for the newest release by Joe Bonamassa. Plenty of practice first got a twelve-year-old Bonamassa an opening gig with blues icon B.B. King back in 1989. The New York native has been on a roll ever since. Bonamassa still spits out a flurry of notes, that's his signature, but the acoustic setting softens his aggression, and his band follows suit. The songs aren't so much reinterpreted as given a gentler touch, and in a catalog filled with similar feeling records, that distinction is welcome. Featuring new acoustic arrangements of well-loved Bonamassa songs, as well as new, never-before-heard tracks, the recording was a treasure trove for any blues and acoustic fan. Despite this being among the most ambitious things Joe have done, he played with a nine-piece acoustic band, it came out great. A fantastic journey into acoustic bluesrock perfection. Given the fact that playing bluesrock in an all acoustic setting is quite daring and it is far from easy to give your crowd all the energy, this is an overwhelming result. This all-acoustic stripped down show allows his fans a peek straight into the soul of Joe Bonamassa. This is Joe Bonamassa’s 22nd solo album release in the last 15 years, never mind all his collaborations. That may feel like a relentless stream of product, but don’t let that put you off this outing. LIVE AT CARNEGIE HALL: AN ACOUSTIC EVENING contains some real gems. So why not treat yourself?
