WE WANT GROOVE is the debut studio album by American jazz and funk group Rock Candy Funk Party. It was released on 25th January 2013 through J&R Adventures. This quartet repurposes the jazz-funk sounds of yesteryear into a tasteful, eclectic mix, packed with memorable compositions and aided by the crystalline recording process, enabling the music to breathe amid great detail and depth. Rock Candy Funk Party is a production that sports a festive aura, WE WANT GROOVE are prophets of good cheer. The album emanated from Tal Bergman and Ron DeJesus' Groove Volume One followed by live performances, ultimately leading to the WE WANT GROOVE aggregation. The musicians' collective resumes comprise gigs and performances with top rock, jazz and pop acts, spanning multiple genres, and their sensibilities and approaches to various musical platforms are impeccably transposed to disc. The jazz-funk, soul brew is often given a bluesy touch by Bonamassa who is situated on the left channel while DeJesus is heard on the right channel, tendering a well-defined soundstage. In a loose sense the guitarists are role players, alternating between the jazz, funk and blues-rock idioms. One of the enthralling aspects of the album, other than the solid material and stellar audio engineering, pertains to the bands manifold rhythmic flows and perceptive use of dynamics. Of course the dance-ability factors are prevalent throughout, but it's a hybrid concoction that yields significant rewards where the old synchronizes with the new, as the group artfully contemporizes and uplifts the tried and true. At the end of the day, we all could use some groove.

The virtuosic jazz funk combo Rock Candy Funk Party released their debut album WE WANT GROOVE. The album consists of nine thick-cut, juicy funk grooves. In addition to being cutting-edge musicians, the members of Rock Candy Funk Party also happen to be stellar songwriters. Eight of the record’s nine cuts are all-original compositions. In addition to a delectable plate of tasty funk grooves, WE WANT GROOVE also contains a DVD with behind-the-scenes documentary footage about the band and the recording of the album. The album title and name of the group pretty much sums it all up. Tal has been the drummer for Joe for a couple of years now and Rock Candy Funk Party started out as a side project with Ron DeJesus where they just got together at LA’s Baked Potato jazz club and jammed. Over time the rest of the group slowly joined the jam sessions and what we end up with is a group that swirls 70s/80s funk groove with fusion jazz improvisation, which is all tempered with an underpinning rock sensibility. You exchange vocal lyrics for extended improvisational lyrical exchanges between all the players. You don’t miss the lyrics at all. This album isn’t going to be for everyone. However, if you’re looking to experiment and push the boundaries of what you like past blues rock then follow Joe down this path. It’s a fun dive into the jazz funk genre that doesn’t get too far from the rock shore line. Every track has some stellar guitar playing and in the end WE WANT GROOVE delivers the funky groove that they wanted.
