A second album is always a difficult test for a band—especially when the debut is such an outstanding work as Machine Head’s 1994 milestone *Burn My Eyes*. While the catchy, riff-driven structures of Burn My Eyes are still present to a certain extent, the overall sound felt significantly more stripped-down and raw. The album picks up seamlessly where the debut left off, starting with the opening double-header “Ten Ton Hammer” and “Take My Scars.” Both songs combine extremely rousing riffs with Rob Flynn’s unmistakable vocal style—with fantastic results.
