LIVE AT DONINGTON is the DVD recording of the Australian rock band AC/DC‘s show at Donington Park on 17th August 1991. It was the band's third Monsters Of Rock Festival. The two-hour show was performed before 72,500 spectators and included real cannons, the Hells Bell, an inflatable Rosie and two inflatable Anguses: one to the right of the stage, and one in the back of the stage during Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be. It was filmed in 35 mm Panavision and had 26 cameras that included one situated inside a helicopter. The DVD includes special features such as stereo and 5.1 surround sound, Iso-cam versions of certain songs for different band members, and audio commentary from Angus and Malcolm Young. Another option allows the viewer to focus on just one member for the length of a song. This option is available for Angus Young on "Thunderstruck", "Back In Black", and "Highway To Hell". The option is offered for Malcolm Young on "T.N.T.", Brian Johnson on "Whole Lotta Rosie" and Cliff Williams on "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". For unknown reasons, this option was not available for Chris Slade. One other feature is a full catalogue discography with audio interview of all international albums. DVD was released on 3rd November 2003. Tracks from LIVE AT DONINGTON on AC/DC Live have the original audio.

It is well known that the band name comes from a sign on a sewing machine. The fact that the band is also called Acca Dacca in Australia is less so. It is believed that this nickname comes from the Australians' penchant for converting as many terms as possible into a slang version. Margaret, Malcom and Angus's sister, not only discovered the sewing machine sign, but also had the idea that Angus should wear his old school uniform on stage because he always kept it on after school anyway. Angus was then able to hide the radio transmitter that he needed for wireless transmission from his guitar in his school bag... Metallica heats up as the opening act and AC/DC bring the fans to ecstasy with their hits. Fueled by Brian Johnson's bloodcurdling siren vocals and the precise riffs of Angus Young, dressed in a schoolboy uniform, the entire AC/DC mystery presents itself as a youthful sexual fantasy in a never-ending blitzkrieg of sonic aggression. Compared to many other sophisticated metal bands, AC/DC are like a blue work coat - no elaborate light show, no major pyro effects, no video projections. It's all about the music and the interaction with the fans. Why AC/DC are so funny live? Because as soon as they come, all hell breaks loose around you. There's shouting and clapping and air guitar playing. There are riffs, riffs and riffs and a screaming singer, tasteless stage decor and redneck gestures and rock, rock, rock. All of this can only be ecstasy without disgust if you turn your head off, and that doesn't work very well in front of the television. The band really plays well, and singer Brian Johnson contributes to keeping the show interesting with his vocals and actions. Probably the best thing about LIVE AT DONINGTON is that it, like its album release, it's packed with thrice as much energy than the band ever placed on their original studio cuts. LIVE AT DONINGTON was pretty epic. A historical gig to be sure, the shine only dulled maybe by age and older technology.
