Eric Clapton & Friends is a very good album of rock, pop & blues songs. Simply: classic!
Friends list includes: JEFF BECK, RAY COOPER, ANDY FAIRWEATHER-LOW, JAMES HOOKER, TONY HYMAS, KENNY JONES, RONNIE LANE, JIMMY PAGE, SIMON PHILLIPS, FERNANDO SAUNDERS, CHRIS STAINTON, CHARLIE WATTS, STEVE WINWOOD, BILL WYMAN!
The ARMS Charity Concert was a rock concert in support of Action into Research for Multiple Sclerosis envisaged by Ronnie Lane, ex-bassist for The Small Faces and The Faces, himself a casualty of multiple sclerosis. (The ARMS Charity concerts were a series of charitable rock concerts in support of Action into Research for Multiple Sclerosis in 1983 visualized by bassist Ronnie Lane.) The concert was billed as The Ronnie Lane Appeal for ARMS and featured a magnificent line-up of British musicians, and was originally supposed to be a one-time gig at the Royal Albert Hall before additional U.S. dates were added. While the star-studded line-up left little to be desired for true British blues rock fans, the most anticipated performance was of course that of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. This occasion was particularly of note because it marked the first time all three former lead guitarists of The Yardbirds (who had all subsequently replaced each other) shared a stage together all at once.
All three of them gave renditions of some of their greatest hits; Clapton with “Cocaine,” Beck and his “Hi Ho Silver Lining,” and of course, Page would’ve been remiss to exclude, “Stairway to Heaven.”
