SPECIAL COLLECTORS ISSUE.
Jimi Hendrix's LIVE AT WOODSTOCK captures the highlights of his literally incendiary Woodstock performance, including "Message To Love", "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)", "Villanova Junction" and his legendary rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner". Interestingly, the DVD of LIVE AT WOODSTOCK doesn't exactly follow the tracklisting of the companion CD. Instead, the majority of the concert video comes from the second half of his set. Fans expecting to see all of Hendrix's set may be disappointed by the heavy editing, not only of the setlist itself but of his comments inbetween sets. Likewise, the disc's lack of extra features such as a biography or discography is also somewhat disappointing. However, Hendrix's performance makes LIVE AT WOODSTOCK worthwhile for most of his die-hard fans. Jimi Hendrix's appearance AT WOODSTOCK may have been one of his most celebrated performances, as the producers of this DVD put it. But it would be a stretch to call it one of his greatest. By the time the guitarist finally took the stage, weather and endless logistical delays had pushed the show to Monday morning, a day after the festival was supposed to have ended. By then, the audience was too tired, hungry, wet, and stoned for Hendrix's set to be the expected apocalyptic finale. Hendrix himself was reportedly so wasted that he collapsed from exhaustion as soon as he left the stage.

It was 50 years ago when The Jimi Hendrix Experience played an important concert at the Royal Albert Hall on February 24, 1969. Now, for the first time, a long anticipated documentary movie of that historic event has surfaced from the archives of rock. The ROYAL ALBERT HALL has long been considered the holy grail of ‘'lost'’ films. The famed Royal Albert Hall theatrically lit as if it were a movie set, resulting in a richly detailed film free of the primitive concert lighting of the era and bizarre camera zooms and pans that poorly served other films from that era. So, the Royal Albert Hall concert was held on 18th February 1969 and not the one on 24th February. It hadn’t been filmed because the lighting in the hall wasn’t sufficiently bright. On that occasion, The Experience was supported by a post-Traffic group billed as Mason, Capaldi, Wood & Frog plus Soft Machine. The show was okay, if not wonderful. ‘'Thank you very much!'’ Was all Jimi could say to his audience after such a physically exhausting and emotionally draining performance that saw him kicking over Marshall amps and smashing a guitar to smithereens and finally hurling the broken neck out into the once restrained and now hysterical audience. No wonder he had tears in his eyes as the artist sat later, alone for once, in the dressing room. If you can hear us… thank you Jimi, Mitch and Noel.
