BOOTLEG Version.
When American rock legends The Black Crowes got together with Led Zeppelin's exceptional guitarist Jimmy Page for six sensational shows in 1999, the American audience, understandably, stood on their heads. The performances delivered by this illustrious line-up of true rock superstars left fans breathless and even experts rejoiced enthusiastically. Together Page and The Black Crowes delivered a number of high-class Led Zeppelin classics, among them ''Celebration Day'', ''The Lemon Song'', ''Heartbreaker'', and ''Whole Lotta Love'', as well as numbers that nobody would have expected. Tracks like ''Ten Years Gone'', ''Your Time Is Gonna Come'' or ''What Is And What Should Never Be'' were convincingly delivered thanks to Jimmy Page and the two Crowes guitarists Rich Robinson and Audley Freed, who not only have the necessary technique but also the right feeling for this kind of material. Chris Robinson delivers an unbelievably powerful and dramatic vocal performance. The impressive set was rounded off by songs from the regular Black Crowes track list along the lines of ''Shake Your Money Maker'' or ''Mellow Down Easy'' and rock standards like ''Shape Of Things'' by The Yardbirds, with whom Jimmy Page played in the mid-Sixties. GREEK THEATRE is the brilliant recording of the final show in L.A.

The Black Crowes were dogged with comparisons to The Rolling Stones and The Faces throughout the first decade of their career, so it came as a mild surprise that they teamed with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page in late 1999 for a couple of concerts. Zeppelin had a mystique and majesty about them that The Crowes never attempted to emulate. They were an earthy, bluesy rock band and while they found a number of different ways to rework their influences, they never tried the stately grandeur that was Zeppelin's second nature. So, some observers were curious to see how these two approaches worked. Well, it worked very, very well indeed. It shouldn't have come as a surprise that it was a good, comfortable fit since Page always demonstrated a true love of blues and early rock and roll, even on Led Zep's heaviest moments. What may be a surprise, at least to listeners that always dismissed The Black Crowes as revivalist hacks, is how supple and muscular the band sounds on at the GREEK THEATRE and how powerful vocalist Chris Robinson is. Live at the GREEK THEATRE isn't a landmark release, and only hardcore Jimmy Page, The Black Crowes, and Led Zeppelin fans are likely to want this, no matter how vibrant and lucent these faithful interpretations are. But for those fans, they'll be quite pleased with how good, how strong this concert.
