MOTHERSHIP is a compilation album by English rock band Led Zeppelin, released by Atlantic Records and Rhino Entertainment on 12th November 2007 in the United Kingdom, and 13th November 2007 in the United States. MOTHERSHIP is a Limited Edition DVD with the Premiere Version of the Led Zeppelin DVD, which was shown in theaters featuring 20 songs. The legendary group's comprehensive collection featuring epic songs chosen, sequenced and remastered under the band's direct supervision. Led Zeppelin redefined rock in the Seventies for all time. They were as influential in that decade as The Beatles were in the prior one. Their impact extends to classic and alternative rockers alike. Then and now, Led Zeppelin looms larger than life on the rock landscape as a band for the ages with an almost mystical power to evoke primal passions. It's rare that a group can truly rock today's world, but the arrival of MOTHERSHIP, the comprehensive Led Zeppelin compilation qualifies. Produced by Page, MOTHERSHIP's monolithic tracks were selected and sequenced by the band, who also oversaw the painstaking remastering. Led Zeppelin's reunion for an Ahmet Ertegun tribute concert in November 2007 seemed like a spur of the moment thing, but it just happened to coincide with the release of an expanded The Song Remains The Same on both CD and DVD, the debut of their catalog and the new compilation MOTHERSHIP. MOTHERSHIP has a sense of scale that the previous round of compilations, because it is heavy on the heavy epics, emphasizing Zeppelin's sheer sonic ballast over either their lighter or more idiosyncratic moments. The band started out heavy and expanded outward, and MOTHERSHIP hits the obvious high points without seeming perfunctory. Along with Page's new remastering, is the real selling point behind MOTHERSHIP. This is a huge leap in the advancement of sound remastering. You would have to be absolutely deaf to not to realise it and appreciate it. The difference is like Day and Night! Really sorry for those people, who don’t recognize it and value its true merits. MOTHERSHIP offers no bonus content or previously unreleased material. It serves, mainly, as an introduction for those still unfamiliar with the band. Longtime fans will find little of use here, although anyone who spends a couple hours with MOTHERSHIP will find themselves duly reminded that Led Zeppelin are quite possibly the finest rock band of all time. Anyone truly interested in Zep's music was advise to dig through their couch cushions until they came up with enough quarters to invest in one or all of the band's albums. It would be worth every dollar. Now you can represent this music to your offspring and the upcoming generations and prove that you were not crazy all these years when you loved and endeared a band not like any other bands in the history of Rock and Roll.
