LIVE AND DANGEROUS is a live album by the Irish rock band Thin Lizzy, released in June 2, 1978. It was recorded in London in 1976, and Philadelphia and Toronto in 1977, with further production in Paris. It was also the last Thin Lizzy album to feature guitarist Brian Robertson, who left the band shortly after its release. The band decided to release a live album after their producer Tony Visconti did not have enough time to work on a full studio session. They listened through various archive recordings from earlier tours and compiled the album from the best versions. Various studio overdubs were made to the live recordings during early 1978 in Paris; exactly how much of the album is overdubbed has been a contentious topic since its release.

Thin Lizzy's LIVE AND DANGEROUS, originally issued in 1978, along with UFO's raging Strangers In the Night (1979), carry the banner of the greatest official hard rock concert recordings ever issued. Like most live efforts, the tracks from LIVE AND DANGEROUS were cleaned-up in the studio. Approximately 25% of the material was reworked according to former Lizzy manager Chris O'Donnell. Eighteen years following the original release of the energized LIVE AND DANGEROUS double LP set, the collection of cuts were re-issued in remastered CD format. No matter, from start-to-close, LIVE AND DANGEROUS packs on one hot track after another. Originally entitled Thin Lizzy Live, the tight twin guitar machine of Brian Robertson and American born Scott Gorham demonstrate what they are made of throughout the red hot recording, while front man Philip Lynott holds down the bassline, and his larger-than-life stage presence dominates the performance. From behind the drum kit, Brian Downey is rock steady holding down the back beat. Although the album credits note that the tracks were recorded live in Toronto, in reality, the majority of the songs from LIVE AND DANGEROUS were culled from a three night run at London's legendary Hammersmith Odeon, during the tail end of the Johnny The Fox tour, in November of 1976. In addition, a few songs were taken from a 1977 show at Philadelphia's Tower Theater, which were recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour radio show in America. With a solid set of songs to fall back on, which includes the hot summertime anthem "The Boys Are Back In Town", as well as the break-out anthem "Jailbreak", "Cowboy Song", Bob Seger's "Rosalie", "Don't Believe A Word", "Are You Ready", the proud "Emerald", and the emotional "Still In Love With You", LIVE AND DANGEROUS is a true classic from the Lizzy camp. A must have for anyone who never caught the band live during their prime time run. Spin the disc... and raise a drink to the memory of Philip Paris Lynott. Are you still out there? KNOCK IT BACK!
