The documentary SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL was made at a time when The Rolling Stones were at their creative peak and Jean-Luc Godard was taking a political-revolutionary direction with his films, after seeing some of the great "French New Wave Cinema" - produced films. For many, the main attraction of this DVD is seeing the band (Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman) compose a rousing hit from a loose draft of a song. Beginning as a ballad, "Sympathy For The Devil" gradually develops a throbbing groove. This tempts Jagger into a stormy vocal performance, which fortunately Godard was able to capture on this film. Over the years the film has been shown in two versions and distributed as both SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL and ONE PLUS ONE. This unique DVD now offers viewers the opportunity to experience both versions. As much an account of Sympathy For The Devil's production process as it is a record of the charged political environment of the time, VOICES presents a unique insight into the creative tensions of filmmaking as shown during the creation of what was at the time Godard's most expensive film to date. Interspersed with images and events from France's 1968 Student Riots, VOICES is not only filled with on set and on location footage of Sympathy For The Devil being produced, but also contains informative and equally political interviews from Godard as well as further insight into The Rolling Stones recording sessions for the song of the same name. An old filmstrip from the summer of 1965 shows pictures from a private party at Fersens Väg in Malmö, Sweden. Local pop idols from groups such as Namelosers and Gonks are seen, together with all-ordinary pop fans, boys and girls. They are gathering around a few exclusive guests: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones from The Rolling Stones - the first international pop group to visit Malmö. 40 years later, the filmmakers meet some of the guests at that party. ROLLING LIKE A STONE is a documentary about those who hat their identities shaped during a few years in the mid 60's. It is also a film about the difficulty to age with the dreams of youth and to live in the present. ROLLING LIKE A STONE vontains lots of never before seen footage from Malmö in the 60's, including a recently recovered film grom Klubb Bongo in 1965.
