WINGS AT THE SPEED OF SOUND is the fifth studio album by the British–American rock band Wings, released on 26th March 1976. The album was recorded and released in the midst of Wings' highly successful Wings Over The World Tour, with songs from the album performed on the tour after its release. As a reaction to critics who believed Wings was merely a vehicle for Paul McCartney, the album featured every member of the band taking lead vocals on at least one song, and two songs from the album are written or co-written by band members other than the McCartneys. On 23th September 2014 the album was re-issued by Hear Music/Concord Music Group as part of the fifth set of releases, alongside Venus And Mars, in the Paul McCartney Archive Collection. It was released as Deluxe Edition 2CD/DVD and includes the original 11-track album, the 7 bonus tracks disc, and a hardback book featuring unpublished photographs, new interviews with Paul, material from Paul's archives and expanded track-by-track information. Also the Deluxe Version comprises the DVD with filmed material from around the time of the album release, some of which has never been seen before. The DVD features rare and previously unseen footage, including the documentaries "Wings Over Wembley", "Wings In Venice" and the "Silly Love Songs" music video.

In order to present the Wings as a real band and to refute the accusation that the musicians were just McCartney's backing band, more Wings members came to the microphone here than on any other Wings album to present their own songs or songs written by McCartney and his wife. Overall, WINGS AT THE SPEED OF SOUND is a well-made pop album, but it doesn’t come close to Ram or Venus And Mars. The remaster leaves nothing to be desired in terms of sound and sounds better than the original CD release. The bonus CD is short and only seven tracks. The demos were completely unknown to you until then. During the demo for “Let 'Em In” it becomes clear that Denny Laine was not to be underestimated for the Wings. Why no songs from the Trevor Horn cassette tapes were used remains a mystery. But what isn't is not. As usual, the book contains a huge amount of unpublished or rare photos, facsimile prints of song lyrics, background information and all song lyrics. And it seems to be the case that when the deluxe editions come in a double whammy, one is quite generous in terms of the bonus CD and the other is rather economical, that was the case with McCartney and McCartney II and is the case again here. And of course there was an exclusive download track here too and, who would have thought, it comes from the One Hand Clapping film. This is an outtake that was not used in the film.
