BEACON THEATRE: LIVE FROM NEW YORK is the fifth live album by the American blues rock musician Joe Bonamassa. The album was recorded across two nights on 4th and 5th November 2011 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City and released by J&R Adventures on 2DVD on 8th March 2012, and later on 2CD on 24th September 2012 in UK and follow day in US. Albums with Black Country Communion, a duet with Beth Hart, a solo album, and inspired guest appearances with the likes of Lesley West and Derek Sherinian has seen blues-rock singer and guitarist Joe Bonamassa finally start to get the recognition he deserves. After twelve years he has been slowly improving over his fifteen solo albums and you has seen him in a good vein of form. During this time the king of modern blues rock recorded his fifth live album, BEACON THEATRE: LIVE FROM NEW YORK. It’s an impressive 2-disc set with some of Bonamassa’s finest recent work. There is no comparison between his weak, unconfident singing on the 2009 live album Live From Nowhere In Particular and the deep, powerful voice that is beginning to go gravelly around the edges in 2011. Joining Bonamassa on the Beacon Theatre stage Beth Hart lends her sultry crooning to two cuts from the duet album Don’t Explain, while John Hiatt and Paul Rodgers blow the blues out of the sky with their elder statesmen tones. Singularly, the songs all hold up on their own, which makes it a highly recommended purchase.

There is simply no one pumping out classic blues rock with more passion and talent than Joe Bonamassa in 2012. The man is obsessed with his passion and music effortlessly flies from his fingertips. He has his own band, plus the hard rocking Black Country Communion, but he only gets stronger from the massive work load he places upon himself. Want proof? Check out this DVD, as Joe is on fire from the opening note to the final encore. Filmed at the legendary Beacon Theater in New York City, Bonamassa turns in what some may consider his career best performance, but truth be told, this is just another day at the office for Bonamassa. Add special guests John Hiatt, Beth Hart and Paul Rodgers and you have another Bonamassa masterpiece. Beth Hart may be a graduate from The School Of Janis, but she puts her own twist on things and brings her performance to dizzing heights. Not to be outdone, John Hiatt joins Bonamassa and being one of the high points of the concert. Saving the best for last, the mighty Paul Rodgers, joins Joe and Bonamassa actually seems a bit nervous sharing the stage with one of his heroes. He takes that nervous energy and pumps it into the performance and literally have the crowd in a frenzy. And then you get all of Joe’s songs and also an entire second bonus disc that features a few more tracks, as well as Joe talking with David Crosby about chord changes (!). The bottom line here is that any fan of true guitar oriented classic rock and blues should not only by this DVD, they should by anything with Joe Bonamassa’s name on it. Joe is gaining momentum and getting stronger with each outing. There is something special about this young man. He may just be The Great White Hope to bridge the generational gap and bring back real music to the forefront.
