He’s been called the “The Voice of Rock”. His career has spanned more than four decades, having played with Deep Purple, Trapeze and Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi, in addition to establishing a highly regarded solo identity. In summer 2006 Glenn Hughes did a acoustic show in Sydney, Australia with JJ Marsh on guitar and Lachlan Doley on keyboard. The performance was captured and was released on CD and DVD in 2007. Glenn Hughes' CD and DVD titled LIVE IN AUSTRALIA was released on 25th September 2007. Two disc (CD + PAL/Region 2 DVD) edition of this live release from the veteran rocker, who has more than earned the nickname ''The Voice Of Rock'' was released on 24th April 2009. Glenn Hughes best known for his mid '70s work with Deep Purple, his career has spanned more than four decades, having started in the 60s playing bass and performing vocals in Trapeze and working together with Black Sabbath star guitarist Tony Iommi on various occasions. The original artwork for the CD and DVD has been updated and makes the new package look as great as the content is. The songs on the releases range across Glenn's career, taking in material from the beginning of his solo career to new masterpieces. This package is a paradigm of Glenn's soulful, distinctive voice, which is in top-notch condition throughout the show.

The man who once performed with DEEP PURPLE in front of thousands of people played an atmospheric, very intimate acoustic gig in the tiny club The Basement in front of a small, hand-picked crowd. And on this occasion, Hughes insisted on recording this great career moment and making it available to a larger number of his followers on DVD or CD. As befits such an occasion, Hughes uses very little instrumental equipment. There is no percussion or even drums at all, the atmosphere is correspondingly homely and stylish, which of course also contributes to the “size” of the venue. But otherwise everything fits, the picture is razor-sharp and unadulterated, the sound is clear, warm and beautifully spatial and the image management adapts to the calm overall mood, with the protagonist Hughes logically being the focus, the happy faces but the audience should not be left out either. It doesn't matter whether Hughes takes on naturally quieter tracks or presses rocky versions into acoustic garb, the concept seems to be all of a piece and very natural, as if Hughes had never made hard rock music. The master himself seems to be in top form, his voice is always in the spotlight with impressive screams, the soul in his organ is glowing and he proves again and again how good the Brit is with funny announcements on almost every single song. Anyone who isn't impressed by this must either be dead or consider stories like Schnappi, the crocodile, to be the ultimate in great art. LIVE IN AUSTRALIA is a great live document, a real highlight in the sea of current CD and DVD releases and the early legacy of one of the greatest singers on the planet.
