Eric Clapton- UNPLUGGED: Deluxe Edition- DVD & 2 CD- 2013-
- Viacom International Inc./Reprise Records- 081227963668- 1400 grn
Remastered & Expanded with 6 previously-unreleased audio tracks and unseen rehearsal footage of 14 songs including ''Circus'' and ''My Father's Eyes''. 1992’s UNPLUGGED sold more than 19 million copies worldwide and won six GRAMMY® Awards, including Record The Year and Album Of The Year. A re-edited version of the show was released for home viewing on VHS and laser disc. In 1997, it was issued on DVD. The DVD format was of great interest to audiophiles as it had audio in Dolby Digital Surround sound. In 2013, Reprise Records released UNPLUGGED: Expanded and Remastered as a 2-CD/DVD set with a remastered version of the original album plus six unreleased outtakes on the second CD. The DVD had a newly restored version of the concert, as well as more than an hour of previously unseen footage from the rehearsal. In 2013, Eric Clapton, touring in celebration of his 50th year as a professional musician, released a remastered version of UNPLUGGED, including an essential deluxe version that adds six bonus tracks, rehearsals, and several songs not featured on the original album. Early versions of “Circus” and “My Father’s Eyes” (in two takes) precede their appearance on 1998’s Pilgrim. A cover of Big Maceo Merriweather’s “Worried Life Blues” and alternate takes of Jerry Lynn Williams’ “Running on Faith” and Robert Johnson’s “Walkin’ Blues” fill out the extras. This expands a great album, where there’s no such thing as too much of a good thing. The acoustic reworking of “Layla” remains the centerpiece of the original disc, with “Tears in Heaven” (originally recorded for the Rush soundtrack) the emotionally resonant timepiece. (It was written, with Will Jennings, about Clapton’s pain and suffering after the death of his four-year-old son Conor.) Timeless means timeless. Little known fact: Lou Reed was scheduled to record a show for MTV at Bray Studios immediately after Eric’s taping, which had started at 6:15PM. The Clapton prizewinners were invited to remain for this second taping, but Lou Reed never showed up!
