Most ROCK & ROLL fans associate the title "LOVE HER MADLY" with the DOORS' hit from 1971, especially when the former keyboardist of the band RAY MANZAREK is involved. In the case of this release, LOVE HER MADLY has nothing to do with THE DOORS, but it is the title of both a film and soundtrack produced by RAY MANZAREK along with BRUCE HANIFAN. This film by RAY MANZAREK of THE DOORS, former film student and M.A. at UCLA as well as director of several films on THE DOORS, ist based, as we learn, on an idea of JIM MORRISON (story), from the time when MORRISON was considering returning to UCLA for his Master Degree in cinematography. RAY MANZAREK and poet MICHAEL MCCLURE appear as themselves giving a performance. As explained by RAY MANZAREK in the commentary, you can also see briefly Ray's wife DOROTHY, formerly actor in his student films, and his son PABLO, now a keyboard player himself, as well as several people of the film staff. In the extras, RAY MANZAREK guides the viewers to the thrilling locations of Venice Beach, where he, DOROTHY and JIM MORRISON used to live together during their perhaps most creative period. Yet, directed by and mated to a soundtrack scored by DOORS’ keyboard wizard, RAY MANZAREK, LOVE HER MADLY christens a new millennial genre; hip-hop Hitchcock. The evocative and eclectic instrumental score to the RAY MANZAREK directed film, “LOVE HER MADLY” features Ray with composer Bruce Hanifan, and includes an appearance from fellow DOORS alumni ROBBY KRIEGER.
As Ray himself said about the score, “HAVE A GLASS OF WINE AND PUT YOUR EARS ON IT.”
