THE BEATLES LOVE: ALL TOGETHER NOW- A DOCUMENTARY FILM is a 2008 feature-length documentary that chronicles the making of The Beatles and Cirque Du Soleil collaboration project LOVE. The film details the story behind the unique partnership between The Beatles and Cirque Du Soleil that resulted in the creation and launch of the LOVE stage show and the double Grammy-winning album of the same name. The film is dedicated to the memory of Neil Aspinall, a former assistant to the band and eventual head of Apple Corps, who died in March that year. DVD was released on 20th October 2008. Who knew it would be tougher for the Cirque Du Soleil to deal with the two Beatle widows than with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr? That, at least, is the impression left by Adrian Wills’s documentary ALL TOGETHER NOW, which chronicles the creation of LOVE, The Beatles/Cirque Las Vegas spectacle. The 84-minute documentary has its share of touching moments. A visibly-moved Dhani Harrison attends a preview, looking like a haunting replica of his dad in 1965. Ringo grooves visibly in the audience at the premiere, while, seated beside him, McCartney sings along with his old songs. George and Giles Martin leave the premiere arm in arm. The extras, fascinating in their own right, include a 22-minute feature on changing the original Beatle tracks for the show, nine minutes on setting up the spectacle’s larger-than-life sound, a ten-minute bit on the overall design of the show and a trailer. ALL TOGETHER NOW recounts how the LOVE project came into being, borne from the personal friendship between George Harrison and Cirque Du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte. George saw how the twin talents of Cirque's artistry and The Beatles' music could be fused into something new and totally original. The film touches on the decision to utilize the combined talents of George Martin and his son Giles Martin to produce what became a 90-minute soundscape created from the Beatles' multi-track recordings and how this new audio adventure was being quietly worked on in the famous Abbey Road Studios in London, England whilst the first creative ideas for the show were being formulated in Montreal, Canada. These early stages of the project were all filmed, as were the first rehearsals in the theatre of The Mirage in Las Vegas, which was completely rebuilt with a one-of-a-kind sound system and complex round staging to house the LOVE show. George and Giles Martin, the show's musical directors, were involved with the Cirque Du Soleil creative team, performers and backroom staff. LOVE, a Cirque Du Soleil creation and co-production with The Beatles' company, Apple Corps Ltd., celebrates the musical legacy of The Beatles and is presented exclusively at The Mirage in Las Vegas. Marks the first time that Apple Corps Ltd. has agreed to a major theatrical partnership. To create the lush soundscape for LOVE, producers Sir George Martin and Giles Martin worked with the entire archive of Beatles master recordings at EMI's Abbey Road Studios. This unique approach to assembling the music for a live show was rapturously received by the critics and Beatles fans.
