HARD ROCK LIVE is a live album and video by the English hard rock band Bad Company released on 10th February 2010. It was recorded at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on 8th August 2008, and marked the first time original members Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs and Simon Kirke had performed together, since their brief reunion in 1999. Two disc (NTSC/Region 0 DVD & CD) edition includes CD containing the audio soundtrack to this exciting performance. This special sold-out show saw the legendary supergroup reform for their first performance together in nearly a decade. Aptly filmed at Hollywood's Hard Rock Live on 08-08-08, this remarkable reunion showcases all of the band's multi-platinum hits. Paul Rodgers made it no secret that Bad Company’s 2008 reunion gig at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino was to protect the legacy they have built and cement the rights to the trademark Bad Company, but the comeback started with that 2008 gig. Florida is where it all started, and that return to glory is documented on the 2010 CD/DVD set HARD ROCK LIVE. This clean, professional performance never strays from the expected, playing all the classics with efficiency. It’s certainly not bad, and may even be quite entertaining for die-hard fans.

Unless you’re a devoted fan the prospect of a Bad Company reunion wouldn’t necessarily inspire the same kind of crazed anticipation that accompanied, say, Led Zeppelin’s regrouping in London. Nevertheless, did at least qualify as an auspicious occasion. Bad Company were a solid workingman outfit, blessed with a credible front man, solid musicianship and catchy tunes built on reliable rhythms and catchy choruses. These Bad boys were good, but not exceptional. Still, they were solid, and that’s exactly what they proved to be in concert. Simon Kirke still provides perfect pacing, Mick Ralphs still plays a serviceable lead guitar, and Paul Rodgers, who arguably remains the band’s biggest asset, still retains a fine set of pipes, his bluesy growl none the worse for wear. Indeed, it’s Rodgers who best qualifies for the status of Rock Legend. A solo career and the short-lived outfits, The Firm and The Law, proved no competition. It’s no surprise then, that on this particular night, the band would live up to their reputation and would neither raise nor lower the bar. Opening with their theme song and ideal intro, “Bad Company”, Rodgers pounded out the ominous chords on piano, flanked by Kirke and Ralphs on one side, and a pair of enthusiastic stringers on the other. Surprisingly, the back-up players exhibited more energy than the charter members, a scenario that would repeat itself throughout the hour and a half set. Dressed casually while refraining from any sort of posing or excess communication with the crowd, they proceeded to run through a set of songs before concluding with their encores. Nothing unexpected there, which again, more or less lives up to their mantra. The crowd response was nothing short of adoration. A glitch with Ralph’s guitar during a brief acoustic interlude not withstanding, the array of video cameras and a big screen backdrop will likely more than make up for the lack of onstage acrobatics. Viewing the results in retrospect will probably bring back some fond memories. It was indeed a evening of well aged Rock ‘N’ Roll.
