American rocker Rick Derringer was born on August 5, 1947 in Fort Recovery, Ohio. In 1965, his band The McCoys had the number one single in the US with "Hang On Sloopy." Derringer later played and recorded with Johnny and Edgar Winter's bands and Steely Dan, though he is probably best known for his 1974 solo hit "Rock 'N Roll Hoochie Koo." In the 1980s and early 90s, Derringer worked with numerous artists, particularly "Weird Al" Yankovic and Cyndi Lauper, both as a musician and producer. Today, he continues to perform and record with a variety of artists in many genres. Brother to Randy Zehringer, aka Randy Z.
PERSONNEL: Rick Derringer - guitar, lead vocals; Bruce Waibel - bass, backing vocals; Tom Curiale - drums, backing vocals.
This is the latest release of Rick Derringer. it was recorded a couple of years ago and is a great portrait of where Rick is today. The sound is fantastic throughout. The songs are a nice mixture of old and new. Fans of Rick Derringer probably have noticed a spiritual theme in his latest batch of newer songs but he does still have the chops to rock and roll. All the usual standards are here(''Hang On Sloopy'', ''Still Alive And Well'' and ''Rock And Roll Hoochie Koo'') - there are several christian songs tossed in and they rock too. As always he shows his magnificent guitar playing. Just loved it though! The only fault come up with was why wasn't it recorded in a better format. Other than that what can say? Anytime hear Rick play .... FANTASTIC !! This show captured Rick Tom Curiale and Bruce Waibel on 16th February 2002 in a great live performance at Connecticut's Cheney Hall a historical 19th century music hall to a sold-out show. Following the show is a 15 minute interview with Dave O'Neill the videographer.
