SHINE A LIGHT is a 2008 concert film directed by Martin Scorsese documenting The Rolling Stones' 2006 Beacon Theatre performances during their A Bigger Bang Tour. The film also includes archive footage from the band's career and makes use of digital cinematography for backstage sequences, the first time Scorsese used the technology in a film. The film takes its title from the song of the same name, featured on the band's 1972 album Exile On Main St. From Paramount Home Entertainment, SHINE A LIGHT was released on DVD July 29, 2008. A soundtrack album was released in April 2008 on the Universal label. This is also the last movie by Paramount Classics, as the company merged into its sister company Paramount Vantage after the movie was released. Filmed over two nights at New York's Beacon Theater, the concert features guest appearances from Buddy Guy, Christina Aguilera and Jack White. Martin Scorsese's concert documentary SHINE A LIGHT will show the world The Rolling Stones as they've never been seen before. Scorsese assembled a legendary team of cinematographers to capture the raw energy of the legendary band.

With SHINE A LIGHT, legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese provides a backstage pass to The Rolling Stones gig at the Beacon Theater in New York City. The documentary, mixed with archive interviews, was filmed over a two-day period, giving fans a glimpse of the band as they prepare to take the stage for the set of shows in the fall of 2006. Fans will also see three musical guests each perform a number with The Stones. Jack White performs acoustic guitar on “Loving Cup,” Christine Aguilera performs “Live With Me” alongside Mick and Buddy Guy is a showstopper when he plays on “Champagne And Reefer” with the band. Some of The Stones greatest hits are featured including “Tumbling Dice” and “Satisfaction” to “Start Me Up” and “Shine A Light.” As you scrutinize the aging bodies of The Rolling Stones in Martin Scorsese’s rip-roaring concert documentary SHINE A LIGHT, there is ample evidence that Rock ’N’ Roll may hold the secret of eternal vitality, if not eternal beauty. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, the quartet’s three skinny members, certainly look their ages. But there is nothing stodgy about them. The strenuous Rock ’N’ Roll life has left them sinewy and lean, like longtime marathon runners. The staid, above-it-all drummer, Charlie Watts, is the exception. Mr. Jagger and company are mischievous bohemian whippersnappers churning up variations on their elders’ musical bedrock. It is obviously a thrilling game to play into your 60s and beyond, if you’ve still got the juice. And The Stones have the juice. But it is ultimately just a game.
