Uriah Heep- GYPSY- DVD- 1985/2002-
- Trilion Pictures Ltd./Sanctuary Records Group Ltd./Sony BMG Music Entertainment (Russia)- 828768178898- 150 grn
This video was released first time in 1985 on VHS by Trilion Pictures Ltd. On 12th August 2002 GYPSY DVD was released by Sanctuary Records Ltd. Quite an experience for you'll this concert from Camden Palace, London, from 1985. You'll curious to see a concert with Peter Goalby as a singer. Musically, the group are a traditional British rock band, with a familiar sound, and like so many other old rock groups, they released their most acclaimed material at the start of their careers, and they have largely been living off their reputation for years. The band have a loyal following as they release new material annually - and for fans of the group, this disc gives fans of the group a chance to see them perform in 1985. All the piece are good played, every musician is in top form, but, there is a but, the public is not very enthusiastic, because in that period mid '80 Heep's music was no longer something to wrote about or something to gather thousends of fans. Nevertheless the prestation here of the musicians is very good and is clear that the band try to deliver the best they got on stage. In the end this DVD worth to view if you are a Uriah Heep fan. The old songs Peter Goalby does good, not as good as Bernie Shaw, but good. But the real great thing here is the Goalby-period stuff. ''Other Side Of Midnight'' just kicks butt, and isn't available anywhere else live. Other standouts songs, ''Too Scared To Run'' and ''That's The Way That It Is''. ''Sell Your Soul'' and ''Bad Blood'' are fine. ''Rockarama'' is just odd, very '80's. For the true Heep fan this will not dissapoint.
PERSONNEL: Peter Goalby - Lead Vocals; Mick Box - Guitars, Vocals; John Sinclair - Keyboards, Vocals; Trevor Bolder - Bass, Vocals; Lee Kerslake - Drums.
Uriah Heap have been around for over thirty years now, and unlike most other 70s rock bands, have managed to keep going, with new albums released fairly frequently - there are some gaps, but the group generally manage one release per year. This concert was recorded in 1985 in London, a time described as the group's "middle period". This product is really a treat when you consider how difficult it is to find quality production and performance from this point in time. GYPSY is a no-frills DVD that simply provides a glimpse of Uriah Heep when Peter Goalby and John Sinclair were in the group. The set list features songs from the Goalby-era alongside classic Heep tunes that Pete is able to deliver admirably. Trevor Bolder, as usual, aggressively attacks his bass and Mick Box, as usual, is studio perfect on this high energy number. All in all, this video document is a fitting look at the band during this period. These guys can play their instruments and that's saying something these days. It's just plain nice to see some rock veterans crank out a set, in a tight little club, and look like they did it out of the love of their music. Even back when this show was shot these guys weren't doing this to be the next big thing on the fade-wagon. It's obvious from the setting that Heep's "big days" were done. It is ssoooo time-trapped but it's an awful lot of fun too. If you like guys who are going to keep grinding it out to play a sincere set of rock this one is for you.
