Whitesnake- WHITE NIGHT IN RUSSIA- DVD- 2007- MC- 4011778979555- 100 grn
The 1994 Whitesnake reorganization began with Coverdale’s offer to release Whitesnake’s best-of album Greatest Hits in 1993, when he was working on a Coverdale/Page project with Jimmy Page. After that, the Coverdale/Page project ended at the end of the seven-performance Japan tour, but Coverdale, who regained enthusiasm for the stage through this project, was a Russian event promoter at the same time. Involving promoters from each country, Whitesnake decided to tour Europe as under the cause of promotion of Greatest Hits album. Coverdale was lead Whitesnake with Warren De Martini and others, and was start the European tour from the White Night Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia, which triggered the band reorganization. This video is a perfect professional shot video that makes full use of the multi-camera, and the pattern of the special first day live is completely recorded for 101 minutes. Although the outdoor live performances on a still day are rare in appearance, a surprise that is extremely rare in the history of Whitesnake will occur on this day. Coverdale, who impressed the listeners with his enthusiasm for “Soldier Of Fortune”, was playing “Smoke On The Water” at the request of the audience. It's with the first time makes of the strong impression. From around the instrumental number “Oi” in the latter half of the live, the area around the venue gradually became dim, and the atmosphere of the live became even more exciting. Conclude with on the completely dark stage, two songs, “Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City” and “Still Of The Night”, which are indispensable for the band, and a special live performance is in a perfect mood.
PERSONNEL: David Coverdale - vocals; Paul Mirkovich - keyboards; Warren De Martini - guitar; Denny Carmassi - drums; Adrian Vandenberg - guitar; Rudy Sarzo - bass.
In 1990, Coverdale put Whitesnake on ice, only to reform it four years later to record a Greatest Hits album and play a supporting European tour including this brilliant show which was recorded at the White Nights Festival. It a DVD was from the past and if you are looking for a big stadium, this DVD is not for you. It is recorded on a stage in a park in the open air. This show was shot for television and has a very bizarre audience, kept about fifty yards from the stage with just a lucky few in front of the stage. There are as you can see a lot of Whitesnake fans there, but not like the fan you get today. Plenty of Russian Police present. It is a dvd from the early days and they are young. You have to be a harden whitesnake fan to enjoy this DVD. An odd gig, but worth adding to the collection even if it is an unofficial release. Just buying this to see the amazing Warren De Martini play guitar is worth the price. The picture quality is fine and so is the sound. DVD is in TV broadcast quality and is unusually as well beautifully filmed. It just vibes and was one of the first concerts this line up did and there are some funny moments too. Add to that the appearance of Adrian Vandenberg who co-wrote several of the tracks and is an excellent guitarist and you are are on to a winner.
