ZU & Co.: Live At The Royal Albert Hall is a live DVD recording by Italian blues rock singer-songwriter Zucchero Fornaciari. He presented his new album ZU & Co. in a special the one-off show, recorded on 6 May 2004, at the Royal Albert Hall, guests on stage were: Brian May, Mousse T., Jenny Bae, Tina Arena, Fher from Mana’, Paul Young, Dolores O’Riordan, Solomon Burke, Cheb Mami, Ronan Keating, Luciano Pavarotti, Eric Clapton, and Irene Fornaciari. For Zucchero, fame and success quickly went beyond national borders. Thanks to the complicity, help and choice of the right and internationally famous colleagues, the singer-songwriter has achieved a visibility that now allows him to be among the best known and most appreciated national songwriters abroad. With his music, however derivative, Zucchero has been able to shape a style that starts from black music and combines it with that typically Italian melodic sensitivity that is so popular abroad and with which we are identified and which is required of our artists as the key to opening doors beyond the border. To this Adelmo also added the fact of expressing himself in Italian but using some words, texts or phrases within them in English, thus giving an international imprint. What Zucchero stages is a concert with a rich production and "illuminated" by guests of the highest level. Alongside the "colleagues" international stars (some virtual) who make their cameos in the company of ours, the presence of a great band on stage should be noted. It is a custom for Zucchero that he always accompanies talented instrumentalists who greatly affect the final result. As if that weren't enough, there is also an orchestra behind it all. In short, an extremely expensive production, which satisfied all of Zucchero's wishes in terms of guests. The concert opens with an intense version of "Dune Mosse" where Zucchero's voice virtually duets with Miles Davis' trumpet, proposing what has already been proposed in a single where the magical instrument of the American trumpeter was the protagonist. Virtually there is also John Lee Hooker (who died in 2001). The great bluesman "dialogues" with Zucchero on the notes of "Ali D'Oro" already proposed on disc and recorded shortly before the disappearance of the American musician. Among the remaining guests we find many singers: to report the King Of Soul Solomon Burke, introduced with a pleasant anecdote that transforms "Diavolo In Me" into an enthralling gospel. His friend Pavarotti was also present. In addition to the voices, there are also two guitar stars: Brian May (in a bluesy guise) and Eric Clapton, already several times in the company of our singer-songwriter. In the over two hours of the concert Zucchero presents his greatest hits mixing Blues, R&B, Soul and lots of Pop, all sweetened by the melody, as we said. Overall, however what Zucchero puts on is a pleasant concert, devoted to "spectacle" but above all to music, that black music that he truly and deeply loves and to which he is inspired in a respectful way. We must also admit that he he is an interpreter of the Madonna, with an indisputably interesting voice, and who in this case has packaged a truly excellent product, played like a god, with truly excellent video footage, in a spectacular location, with a string of illustrious guests, etc. etc. In short, two hours of really pleasant and enjoyable show.
