Filmed in 1965 just as "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" was tearing up the charts and, in the process, sealing the fate of The Rolling Stones, CHARLIE IS MY DARLING: IRELAND 1965 remained unreleased until this 2012 deluxe set, which contains the first official release of the movie. It is a fascinating document of The Rolling Stones on the brink of superstardom -- and, in turn, the explosion of rock culture in general -- and it can be equally enjoyed as either the simple DVD or Blu-ray releases, or in this super-deluxe box set where it's supplemented by two CDs. The first is a straight soundtrack for the film, interspersing interviews from the film between live performances from the movie, plus well-known, well-loved oldies from The Stones ("Heart Of Stone," "Play With Fire," "Tell Me") and a couple instrumental oddities from the Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra. Of special interest is the next CD, a collection of live performances from The Stones in 1965, many of them almost drowned out by screaming audiences, all finding the band supercharged, limber, and alive, enjoying the Chess blues and R&B standards they're playing and laying into their originals with passion. It's raw and rough and reason enough to invest in this Super Deluxe set.

LIVE IN ENGLAND ’65 - the thirteen song set dates back to the breakthrough period of The Rolling Stones original lineup — Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Brian Jones and Bill Wyman — as chronicled in the critically acclaimed film CHARLIE IS MY DARLING: IRELAND 1965. A Super Deluxe Edition of the film was released in 2012 that included companion audio CDs which resulted in a Grammy® nomination in the Best Historical Album category. The performances, as captured on LIVE IN ENGLAND ’65, provide fierce, elemental testimony to The Rolling Stones coming into their own as interpreters of blues-rooted material as well as to the emerging songwriting acumen of the Jagger/Richards team. The thirteen tracks include “Everybody Needs Somebody To Love,” which Mick Jagger sang in tribute to the late Solomon Burke on the 2011 Grammy telecast, as well as Bobby Troup’s “Route 66,” Willie Dixon’s “Little Red Rooster” and “Pain In My Heart” written by Allan Toussaint and covered by Otis Redding. Other tracks include Don Ray’s boogie-woogie classic “Down The Road Apiece,” “Time Is On My Side,” the Jerry Ragovoy-penned standard that Irma Franklin first recorded and Hank Snow’s country burner “I’m Moving On.” Original material on LIVE IN ENGLAND ’65 includes the rave up “I’m Alright,” collaboratively written by all five members of the band, Jagger/Richards’ “Off The Hook,” the studio version of which is on The Rolling Stones Now! and “The Last Time,” the band’s first British single to carry the Jagger/Richards credit line. A Super Deluxe Edition box set of the film versions (all three cuts) and audio albums was released 13 November 2012 which contain 2 CDs, 10" vinyl, DVD, Blu-ray and a numbered limited edition enlarged film cell in 200+ unique variations.
