OFFICIAL BOOTLEG VOLUME SIX: LIVE AT THE ROCK OF AGES FESTIVAL GERMANY 2008 was recorded at the Rock Of Ages Festival in July 2008 by British rock band Uriah Heep and released on 22nd July 2013 by Edel Germany GmbH. Uriah Heep’s history has been an extraordinary journey of over forty years of heavy rock. Their long-lasting, ever successful career brought the band all around the globe, performing hundreds of incredible shows in front of an enthusiastic audience. The official bootleg series already followed the band to Sweden, Hungary, Japan, Australia and Greece and makes its next stop in the sleepy village Rottenborg-Seebronn in Germany. In the summer of 2008, Uriah Heep headlined the infamous Rock Of Ages Festival and once again proved their incredible musical talent. With their powerful performance, the band made clear why they were chosen as headliners and ended the first festival day with a great variety of songs. Well-known hits and of course their all time classic made for the perfect festival set list and left the audience screaming for more. In their Official Bootleg Series they have now reached number six. Here they publish a complete recording of a gig without great postproduction. Contrary to earlier years Heep are happy to change their setlist in the last years, apart from cornerstones like "The Wizard", "Gypsy", "Lady In Black", "Easy Livin'" or "July Morning". Thus the habituation effect is kept within limits. "Falling In Love" from the John Lawton-era was such one of a rarely played track on the Rock Of Ages Festival set. In addition there are "Overload", "Shadow" and "Tears Of The World" three songs of the first studio album since a last decade Wake The Sleeper. In terms of sound, the sixth part of the series is one of the better. That means you can really enjoy the gig on the couch.

The UK prog organ grinding legends have been going over forty years and still sound good. The live instalment of the Heep legacy kicks off in fine fashion with “Overload”, a solid number, but by the sound of the banter, we’re already a numbers into the show with the classic “Return To Fantasy” cracking on at high speed. Here Bernie Shaw’s vocal range is as good as it is powerful. The band are more willing than most to play recent tracks along with the old, sadly at the expense of the late 80s/early 90s material, but even so “Only Human” and “Book Of Lies” sound good next to “Bird Of Prey” and “Stealin’”, so well in fact that you can almost hear guitarist Mick Box grinning. Phil Lanzon’s keys and Trevor Bolder’s bass are on form too. “Free Me” and “Free ’N’ Easy” show contrasts of pace, the former a singalong and the later a real belter. Bernie Shaw is comfortable talking to the crowd, who sound nearly as enthusiastic as the crowd. “Gypsy” and the blistering “Look At Yourself” sound as fantastic as ever – you can’t not like these songs. The hit “Easy Livin’” closes a thoroughly enjoyable show that fans will love and the casual listener could easily dip into. The sixth edition brings together Uriah Heep's biggest and best hits on one CD, proving once again that the band has gotten better and better over the years. By the way, if you put all the CDs next to each other, the spines form a picture matching the releases. A highlight for every collector.
