OFFICIAL BOOTLEG VOLUME FIVE: LIVE IN ATHENS GREECE 2011 was recorded in Athens, Greece in March 2011 by British rock band Uriah Heep and released on 23rd March 2012 by Edel Germany GmbH. Show took place on 12th March 2011 at a venue called the Gagarin 205 in Athens, Greece. After Sweden, Hungary, Japan and Australia, the Official Bootleg Series now takes one of the most successful and influential bands of the 70s further around the world. This time it goes to Athens, Greece. OFFICIAL BOOTLEG VOLUME FIVE of a series of live albums is Uriah Heep's homage to the most dedicated fans in the world. Uriah Heep haven't forgotten how to rock, that's for sure. Old rock bands never die, really......they mutate away. Uriah Heep may never have gotten the plaudits some believe they deserve in either North America or the UK, but they are huge in Poland, Spain, Japan, parts of South America and in Greece, where this OFFICIAL BOOTLEG VOLUME FIVE was recorded. This is nothing more and nothing less than an hour-and-a-half of good, straight-ahead Hard Rock played and sung with gusto. Heep will probably never make it into The Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame. But so what? Like other band road workhorses from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, they do now what most of The Hall Of Famers can't these days - give solid, terrific music to audiences who love what they do. Some of their most recent studio albums are worth checking out, too, but if you feel nothing more than an occasional urge to headbang, this and other recordings in their Official Bootleg Series might be the ticket.

The UK prog organ grinding legends have been going over forty years and still sound good. The live instalment of the Heep legacy kicks off in fine fashion with “Overload”, a solid number, but by the sound of the banter, we’re already a numbers into the show with the classic “Return To Fantasy” cracking on at high speed. Here Bernie Shaw’s vocal range is as good as it is powerful. The band are more willing than most to play recent tracks along with the old, sadly at the expense of the late 80s/early 90s material, but even so “Only Human” and “Book Of Lies” sound good next to “Bird Of Prey” and “Stealin’”, so well in fact that you can almost hear guitarist Mick Box grinning. Phil Lanzon’s keys and Trevor Bolder’s bass are on form too. “Free Me” and “Free ’N’ Easy” show contrasts of pace, the former a singalong and the later a real belter. Bernie Shaw is comfortable talking to the crowd, who sound nearly as enthusiastic as the crowd. “Gypsy” and the blistering “Look At Yourself” sound as fantastic as ever – you can’t not like these songs. The hit “Easy Livin’” closes a thoroughly enjoyable show that fans will love and the casual listener could easily dip into. The fifth edition brings together Uriah Heep's biggest and best hits on one CD, proving once again that the band has gotten better and better over the years. By the way, if you put all the CDs next to each other, the spines form a picture matching the releases. A highlight for every collector.
