Dedicated To The Memory Of PHIL LYNOTT (1949-1986).
This tribute to Thin Lizzy features members of Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Motorhead, and Grim Reaper reworking versions of the metal classics "Jailbreak," "Boys Are Back In Town," "Cowboy Song," "Chinatown," "Killer On The Loose," and "Dancing In The Moonlight." Fanatics of the band may want this to complete their collections but everyone else should stick to the originals. Occasional Fastway singer Lea Hart gets in the producer's seat for another cash cow, along with usual suspects Steve Grimmett, Doogie White, Steve Overland, Bernie Shaw & Gary Barden. In the space of 3 years, Hart (and most of the same group of musicians) have foisted Snakebites: A Tribute To Whitesnake, The Maiden Years: A Tribute To Iron Maiden, Another Hair Of The Dog: A Tribute To Nazareth (which contained no less than five songs that weren't even original with Nazareth!) and this Thin Lizzy abomination onto the record-buying public. The whole concept of a tribute album is great - you get to hear established acts honoring the artists who inspired them. Unfortunately, that concept is lost on Hart and his crew. All the guys here were recruited from bands that weren't active when these albums were being generated (Hart from the previously mentioned Fastway, White from Rainbow, Shaw from Uriah Heep, Barden from The Michael Schenker Group, Overland from FM & Grimmett from Grim Reaper), and it comes off like a bunch of musicians needing rent money. There are no creative touches, no flashes of brilliance, and no honest-to-goodness inspiration. If you're interested in hearing other musicians tear into some of the classic heavy bands' hits, look into the ones produced by Bob Kulick. With Kulick, you don't get the guy who used to sing for Michael Schenker - you get Michael Schenker! Or better yet, buy any random Thin Lizzy CD. Even the worst Phil Lynott is better than any of this mess.
