The tracks presented on this single disc were initially released as the disc two bonus tracks on the double CD 461 OCEAN BOULEVEVARD: Deluxe Edition. Note that the Deluxe Edition also had studio outtakes included as bonus tracks on disc one. Those outtakes are not included in this single disc "Rarities Edition". 461 OCEAN BOULEVEVARD was the address of the house where Clapton lived during the recording of the album of the same name. After his long battle with heroin addiction, Eric Clapton returned in 1974 with a new record. After Layla, this was his second studio album, and many fans and critics consider it his best ever. With Let It Grow, Willie And The Hand Jive, Motherless Child and his version of I Shot The Sheriff, it contains essential songs of his musical career. 461 OCEAN BOULEVEVARD, the album that first showed his pop star potential. Clapton's affectless delivery is almost irresistible, striking at the heart of the blues while avoiding the kind of guttural mannerisms that most pop listeners found off-putting.

The 2010 Rarities Edition of 461 OCEAN BOULEVEVARD contains the second disc from Polydor/Chronicles' 2004 Deluxe Edition reissue of Eric Clapton's 1974 classic. This means that it doesn’t contain all the bonus material from that Deluxe Edition (the first disc was expanded with five session outtakes, all of which have been previously released on other reissues) but instead concentrates on highlights from two concerts Clapton gave at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on December 4 and 5, 1974. Here, Clapton also sounds a little bit too laid-back, particularly on the acoustic material, but he does have some fine moments scattered through the disc - perhaps not enough to satisfy anybody aside from dedicated fans, but that's who the reissue is for, provided that they didn’t pick this up as part of the Deluxe Edition. Here's the fantastic final concert of Clapton's 1974 461 Ocean Boulevard tour. He was on top of the rock world (it was his biggest album) when he thrilled the Hammersmith Odeon crowd with I Shot the Sheriff; Let It Grow; Smile; Little Wing; Singing the Blues; Layla; Badge ; a smokin' blues medley, and more!
