Title track is one of the rarest, most collectable singles of the 60's. Features many other collectors rarities. Long before he formed Deep Purple, Ritchie Blackmore had already won a sizeable reputation amongst London’s musical cognoscenti. As a sessionman and as featured guitarist with Joe Meek’s Outlaws, he had been showing off his skills since the dawn of the 60s. GETAWAY: GROUPS & SESSIONS features the pick of these collectable 60s outings, including his legendary 1965 solo single, his cameos with stars such as Heinz and Lord Sutch, and his contributions to the mysterious Green Bullfrog project.
COMPILATION INCLUDES:
Ritchie Blackmore's GROUPS & SESSIONS with The Outlaws, Chad Carson, Burr Bailey & The Six-Shooters, Silas Dooley Jr., Heinz & The Wild Boys, Gene Vincent, Michael Cox, Glenda Collins, Gunilla Thorn, The Sharades, Andy Cavell, Davy Kaye, The Rally Rounders, Tanya Day & The Nu-Notes, The Sessions, Ritchie Blackmore - BBC 1 Radio Interview with John Tobler, Ritchie Blackmore Orchestra, The Lancasters, Jess Conrad, Screaming Lord Sutch & The Savages, The Soul Brothers, Ronnie Jones, The New Soul Brothers, Tony Wilson, Neil Christian & the Crusaders, Boz, Anan, Sun Dragon, Green Bullfrog.
Years before he attained guitar-god status with Deep Purple, Ritchie Blackmore was a session player of startling prolificacy and diversity - GETAWAY: GROUPS & SESSIONS assembles a generous 52 tracks that capture a gifted young guitarist still exploring the limits of his abilities, enjoying the creative freedom afforded by anonymity. While serious Ritchie Blackmore fans will most appreciate tracing his technical evolution, aficionados of obscure British Invasion-era rock & roll will also find much of note here - few of these singles attracted notice on either side of the Atlantic but they remain quintessential relics of their time and place, covering a broad stylistic swath from rockabilly to pop-soul to freakbeat. Blackmore proves himself an inventive, adroit player regardless of context, bringing energy to even the most banal material - the epic hard rock sound of his Deep Purple work hasn't yet come together, but the pieces of the puzzle are scattered across these two discs. Highlights include a demo version of the Joe Meek-produced "Telstar," Screaming Lord Sutch's "Honey Hush," The Soul Brothers' "Goodbye Baby Goodbye," and the solo entry "Getaway."
