ELECTRIC CHUBBYLAND: Popa Chubby Plays Jimi Hendrix is a live and studio album by Popa Chubby recorded in tribute to Jimi Hendrix. The concert part was recorded in Middletown, New York at the Corner Stage, February 10–11, 2006. The studio part, recorded in 2006 at the Serpentine Studio in Central Valley, includes "San Catri", an instrumental piece written by Popa Chubby in the style of Jimi Hendrix. Theodore Joseph Horowitz, aka Popa Chubby, born March 31, 1960 in New York, is an American blues and rock singer and guitarist. His stage name comes from a slang expression, "pop a chubby", which means "to get an erection." Popa Chubby is from the Bronx. His rather aggressive blues style is influenced by Willie Dixon as well as Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Randy Rhoads, Albert King and Danny Gatton, thus creating a very personal synthesis between blues, rock, funk and pop but sweating the new blues. Like Calvin Russell, he is more successful in France than in the United States, where he is better known to specialists than to the general public, being little invited in the national media. Each of his albums is a concept in itself: an album of ballads with songs like Hallelujah, hard boogie, or even blues like Back Door Man. He also plays drums, which he sometimes practices on stage. In 2006, he began a tour in homage to Jimi Hendrix, who introduced him to rock on the radio with his hit Purple Haze.

After headlining the Jimi Hendrix music festival in Holland in 1998 Popa received many requests from fans to perform an all Hendrix show. Popa Chubby offers up his interpretations of Jimi's music with his Power Trio. This triple CD includes about 150 minutes of music with 2 live CD's recorded at an intimate little club in New York called the Corner Stage on February 10 and 11 2006. The third CD, a bonus, includes all the music Popa was sorry to not include in the live recording.
