LIVE IN GLASGOW is a live album by Paul Rodgers of Free and Bad Company fame. It was released on 16th April 2007. The album features hits from Rodgers' previous bands, blues standards and one new song, "Warboys (A Prayer For Peace)", which was later re-recorded by Rodgers as part of Queen + Paul Rodgers for their studio album The Cosmos Rocks. A DVD of the same name and concert was also released in May 2007. This DVD was Paul Rodgers' first solo DVD release. The album is dedicated to Joe Bradley (Rodgers' first manager), Boz Burrell, Ahmet Ertegün and Henk Huffener. Rock singer, guitarist and songwriter Paul Rodgers has led a prolific and influential career, fronting such bands as Free, Bad Company, The Firm, The Law and others. In this October 2006 concert in Scotland, Rodgers lets loose on many choice tracks from his four decades in the music business. Hell yes he does! Recorded on the final night of a European tour, Rodgers and his bandmates lay down a tough, big sounding set of classics and more recent songs - including one new one - from his entire career and give them life, breath and fire again. You haven't heard live guitars sound like this in a long time, probably since the early '80s, nor have you heard blues-based hard rock. Impeccably recorded Rodgers and crew rip through with fire, intensity and plenty of feeling. "Warboys," begins acoustically and turns into a dual guitar freak-out, lending an air of chaos to the proceedings. The early songs all sound fresh and hungry, and the band supports Rodgers as if he were the greatest rock singer on earth and pushes him hard to deliver. Form a man who prefers to keep a low profile his long awaited debut solo DVD LIVE IN GLASGOW captures new songs alongside his many hits, including some that he has not performed in thirty five years. This DVD showcases his supreme talent as a soulful, live rock performer.

Outgoing (as of 2007) British Prime Minister Tony Blair, a onetime rock musician and promoter, once said that if he could sing like Paul Rodgers, he might never have entered politics. Whether that would have been music's gain and Parliament's loss is debatable, but LIVE IN GLASGOW is further evidence that Paul Rodgers is a worthy role model. While he went on to stardom and the commercial big time with Bad Company and the Firm (with Jimmy Page), and more recently fronted the re-constituted Queen in Freddie Mercury's stead, many would argue that Rodgers' best band was his first: Free, the late '60s-early '70s blues-rock quartet that was a model of spare soul combined with a melodic pop sensibility, with Paul Rogers' vocals leading the way. Rodgers apparently agrees. No less than nine songs in this 80-minute concert are drawn from the Free catalogue, including not only their one big hit, "All Right Now," but also a number of more obscure but still excellent tunes like "Wishing Well", "I'll Be Creepin'", and "Be My Friend". His band, too, does a pretty decent job of reviving the Free spirit. There are four songs from the Bad Company era and just one, "Radioactive", from The Firm. Rodgers can belt the blues, but never goes overboard. He can deliver plenty of grit and passion, but has an appealing tender side as well. And "Warboys", the one new song featured here, indicates that while Tony Blair may be done, Paul Rodgers is still a ways from the end of the road.
