BALLBREAKER is the thirteenth studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC. It was released on 26th September 1995 and was re-released in 2004 as part of the AC/DC Remasters Series. In over twenty years, AC/DC never changed their minimalist, bone-crunching hard rock. During their first ten years, that wasn't a problem, since they were still finding ways to expand and subvert the pattern, but ever since For Those About To Rock We Salute You, they had trouble coming up with consistent material. Consequently, their performances tended to be a little lazy and their records didn't deliver a reliable knockout punch. Released in 1990, The Razor's Edge showed some signs of life, and their comeback culminated in the Rick Rubin-produced BALLBREAKER. What makes BALLBREAKER different than the albums AC/DC churned out during the '80s is simple - it's a matter of focus. Although "Hard As A Rock" comes close, there aren't any songs as immediately memorable as any of their '70s classics, or even "Moneytalks." However, unlike any record since Back In Black, there are no bad songs on the album. Surprisingly, production is a bit too dry, lacking the muscle needed to make the riffs sound truly earthshaking. Nevertheless, Angus Young's riffs are powerful and catchy, showcasing every element that makes him one of hard rock and heavy metal's greatest guitarists. Throughout the album, the band sounds committed and professional, making BALLBREAKER the best late-period AC/DC album to date.

Welcome back, boys... AC/DC returned with their first studio recording in five long years, with the 1995 release of BALLBREAKER. The no-frills group from down under keep it pure and simple, yet hard driving, behind crunching riffs, just as they have done since day one. AC/DC will never alter their style, and the world is a better place because of it. Look for ballads elsewhere, as AC/DC continue to kick out problem child raunch. BALLBREAKER, like each AC/DC release is loaded with sweat-stained, blues-based raw rock 'n' roll from start to close. The cover sleeve design, which as usual places the spotlight on animated guitarist Angus Young, for BALLBREAKER was illustrated by the staff at Marvel Comics. The AC/DC power-plant continues to be hard-charged by the Young brothers, who teamed to pen each track that appear on BALLBREAKER. Guitarist's Angus and Malcolm Young deal out infectious licks, which lay the foundation for every song on offer from BALLBREAKER. The layered guitars and hot leads are an AC/DC trademark, while Brian Johnson's gritty, growling vocals accent the tracks. BALLBREAKER marked the return of drummer Phil Rudd to the hard-wired AC/DC ranks. The opening cut tells the story - AC/DC is "Hard As A Rock"! While the lyrics are grade school level, the guitar work, and big back beat pick-up the slack, as evident on "Cover You In Oil", "Love Bomb", "The Furor", "Whiskey On The Rocks", and the album's hard-wired closing title track.
